Visitors are ruining a Surrey beauty spot by leaving it strewn with litter, a wildlife charity has said.
The Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) said vast amounts of rubbish were dumped at Newlands Corner, near Shere, by people enjoying the snow.
Among the items were broken sledges, plastic bottles and polystyrene takeaway boxes.
The charity said the time spent clearing the litter should have been used for vital conservation work.
SWT ranger Leo Jennings said: "Litter bins are available near the cafe so there is really no excuse for people to dump their rubbish on the Downs.
"Littering spoils the site for other visitors and can endanger wildlife - and the hours spent litter picking could be used to better effect, such as clearing scrub to create more of the valuable grassland - and more room for sledging."
The charity warned that littering would not be tolerated and offenders are liable to prosecution.
