Woking council's IT network fixed after computer virus
IT services at a Surrey council have returned to normal a week after a virus attack on its computer network.

Staff at Woking Borough Council first realised something was wrong on 25 January when they were unable to use part of their computer system.

The council did not give details about the virus or its source but said its website and frontline services were unaffected.

A spokesman said no personal data was affected by the incident.

'Not immune'

Among the sites affected were the Leisure Centre and the Pool in the Park.

Chief Executive Ray Morgan said: "Although our IT arrangements and the protective systems surrounding them have been approved by CESG (Communications Electronics Security Group), this incident has shown that we are not immune to a virus attack.

"As a result, we are working hard to look at how else we can defend our systems in the future.

"Thankfully, no data was compromised or lost as a result of this incident but we fully acknowledge that this situation caused disruption to both our partners and our customers.

"On behalf of the council, I would like to formally apologise for any inconvenience that was caused and assure residents that we are working as hard as possible to catch up with our day-to-day business following this very challenging week."
